BAYNE PETERSON

Bayne Peterson's sculptures feature fluid forms and complex optical patterning.  Historical precedents such as biomorphic abstraction, Modernism, and various craft traditions inform his works in dyed plywood, natural wood, and metal.  Repeated lines, concentric ovals, and multiple sections of color arranged into an orthogonal grid appear to tilt, shift, and confound the eye.  Peterson received an MFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2013.  His works have been exhibited at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI, the RISD Museum, Providence, RI, the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Arts and Design, Toyama, Japan, and the Museum of Arts and Design, NY, among other venues.  Collections include the Museum of Arts and Design, NY, The Hallmark Art Collection, Kansas City, MO, The Progressive Art Collection, Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection, and the RISD Museum, Providence, RI.
